There are concerns for high concentrations, direct contact with nerves, and not knowing what the correct dose should be! **P'Fella's Opinion:** Need more evidence! It's worth reading the entire article [here](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5977964/?ref=theplasticsfella.com). **Here are some stats πŸ‘‡** - \~800 surveyed (423 surgeons, 187 therapists, 187 patients) - 53% of Plastic surgeons prefer to leave K-wires exposed - 34% of Plastic surgeons have no preference - 10% of Plastic surgeons bury their K-Wires. **The decision-making process πŸ‘‡** - Infection concern β†’ more likely to bury K-wire - Want it easily removed β†’ less likely to bury K-wire - Aesthetics, service provision, economic impact don't influence decisions. **Patient's perspective πŸ‘‡** - Exposed K-wires β†’ more concerned about infection. **ConclusionπŸ‘‡** - Decisions to bury or expose K-wire are based on dogma rather than evidence. - WIRE Research Collaborative published a [protocol](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34140031/?ref=theplasticsfella.com) for further research. ### What does the community think.
