Optimal Fluid Resuscitation in Burns In this section, we dive deep into the latest research and evidence on medical practices and surgical techniques. Fluid resuscitation is crucial for treating severe burns, with the Parkland formula long considered the gold standard (Mitra et al., 2006). Traditional research suggested that a more restrictive fluid approach may be beneficial (Artz & Larson, 1965). Hyperosmotic solutions have shown promise in reducing fluid load compared to isoosmotic solutions (Yuan Kao et al., 2018). The addition of albumin to resuscitation fluids has demonstrated improved outcomes, including better cardiac output restoration and reduced edema in unburned tissues (Carvajal & Parks, 1988). The BET formula, which uses high albumin concentrations, has shown success in limiting fluid administration while effectively resuscitating patients (Blanco-Schweizer et al., 2019).
