A Letter from P'Fella

thePlasticsFella's mission‌

In the last 6 months, thePlasticsFella and Dogecoin have had similar trajectories - to the moon! 🚀 It's great to see all the new weekly users of the website and readers of this paper.

As the platform grows, it's important for the mission to stay on a steady course. The absolute core principle of thePlasticsFella is best seen in this new banner on P'Fella's Twitter profile (above): a not-for-profit educational platform teaching your evidence-based Plastic Surgery.

Here are the main ideas behind it all:
1. All information must be evidence-based and verified.
2. Keep pushing new features to improve the learning experience.
3. No interest in making money.
4. Stay independent. No ads, no promotions, no committees.

Sounds simple, but it's a fun challenge.

Articles of the Week

Social Media use in Residency Programs

Abishek et al. PRS Journal Dec 2021. Editorial.

· Instagram is 🔥: it's the most popular
· Most people use it for branding 😭
· Education is 2nd reason to use social media ✅
· Twitter is the least used platform for trainees 🤯
· Nearly 1 in 2 trainees use Snapchat

P'Fella's Takeaway: Social media is good for branding and education and P'Fella better get off Twitter and go to Snapchat.
VACs for Finger Replants - A Systematic Review

Ching-Wei et al, PRS Journal Jan 2022.

· Aim: negative pressure therapy can help venous congestion?
· Methods: if finger replant was congested, NPWT applied
· Results: 25/27 congested replants survived with NPWT.
· Conclusion: NPWT is a potential option for congested fingers.
· Level of Evidence: Therapeutic, IV.

P'Fella' Takeaway: A novel idea. A future study should compare it to the "traditional" techniques of treating venous congestion. Perhaps those fingers would have survived with just leaches 🤷🏼‍♂️
