A Letter from P'Fella

Can surgery be a recipe?

👋
Hey Team!

Imagine if understanding a surgical procedure was as straightforward as following a well-crafted recipe. This might sound simple, yet it has the potential to improve how we prepare for our surgical cases.

👇

Over the next few months, the team will be building a unique "surgical recipe book" tailored for plastic surgery. This will be more than a static manual— it’s a dynamic document that will evolve through our collective expertise and experiences.

Example Insight: MPCJ UCL Repair

This is just a glimpse of what we're aiming to achieve—a practical, accessible guide that enhances both learning and application.

What's the motivation?

  • Clarity: Our 'recipes' will simplify complex procedures into clear, actionable steps. There is a a balance thought between oversimplification and understanding the nuances of a surgical technique
  • Confidence: Confidence in preparation is key. These surgical checklists will be evidence-based and intregated with main articles in the library to help streamline preparation.
  • Community: This is the exiciting part. Your input is invaluable. Over time, each surgical "recipe" will have the infrastructure so you can share your insights and modifications to help us refine these techniques. Every contribution enriches our collective knowledge.

What methods work best for you when learning surgical techniques? Checklists? Visual aids? Let us know your preferences and help us shape this tool to better suit your needs.

Best,

P'Fella ❤️

Clinical Scenarios Update

One of the most requested educational tools from thePlasticsFella is to create a "viva-style" oral examination designed for postgraduate exams. These clinical scenarios can be quite challenging to develop online, but here are some strategies we're implementing to overcome this:

  • AI-Generated Images: These are an excellent way to create images that avoid issues related to patient confidentiality and consent. We can tailor images specifically to each required case.
  • Scenario Updates: As the case progresses, the examiner provides updates with a new image to reflect the latest developments. Check it out below!
